The Stockholm subway, a unique place full of art, is well known throughout the world. A total of 94 stations of the 100 available contain some artistic elements or are completely decorated. Guided tours of the subway are arranged during the year but at fairly limited times.
In 2019 during the summer months more than 2000 people from 54 countries have been able to take one of the tours. Many more than the previous year. So the company in charge of public transport system in Stockholm has decided to create a new app that allows visitors to discover the art of subway stations on their own.
An Artistic Audio Guide for the Subway
The app is an audio guide in Swedish and English that will take you to know different works of art selected from 21 stations. The stations in which the guide is currently available are:
- Gamla stan
- S:t Eriksplan
- Solna centrum
- Tekniska högskolan
- Västra skogen
The SL ArtGuide audio guide is narrated by Swedish actor Alexander Karim and is available for Appstore and Google Play.
Remember that starting this year 2019 there are guided tours in English all year long although the schedules are not as frequent as during the summer months. More information here about them here.
If you are looking for more things to do there is more information about other guided tours in Stockholm and free things to do as well as a guide to visit Stockholm in three days.
